Leptospirosis – Treatment

Leptospirosis can be treated with penicillin and tetracyclin. The treatment should be initiated in the early stage of the disease to be effective.
Penicillin intravenously (IV) 1-2million units, 6th hourly for 7 days is given for serious cases. Mild Jarisch Herxheimar reaction may occur.
Prophylaxis:
Doxycyclin 200mg orally once a week is given as a prophylactic measure.
